The Osun State Government has dismissed as false and mischievous a statement by the All Progressives Congress (APC) alleging that Governor Ademola Adeleke is in talks with former governor Rauf Aregbesola and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over a possible defection ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Reacting on behalf of the state government, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, described the APC’s claim as “a complete fabrication and fake news from the pit of hell.”
Rasheed said there was no truth in the allegation.
He stressed that Governor Adeleke remains a proud and committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and has no reason to negotiate or consider joining any other political platform.
“Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the Osun State APC chairman alleging that Governor Adeleke is negotiating with former Governor Rauf Aregbesola to join the ADC. The report is false and should be disregarded in its entirety.
“The governor is not in any negotiation with former Governor Aregbesola or with the ADC. This is a deliberate attempt by the opposition to mislead the public and distract from the ongoing developmental strides of the Adeleke administration,” the statement read.
The governor’s spokesperson urged residents of Osun State and members of the PDP to ignore what he called the latest round of propaganda from the opposition, assuring that the governor remains focused on delivering good governance and fulfilling his electoral promises.
“Governor Adeleke is committed to the continued progress and prosperity of Osun State. We advise the opposition to stop spreading lies and focus on issue-based politics,” the statement added.
