Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, have arrested three contractors for allegedly vandalising and stealing critical power transmission equipment belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at the Osogbo Substation.

The suspects — identified as Adigwe (52), Bomi (39), and Seyi (42) — were said to be employees of contracting firms engaged by TCN in Osogbo, Osun State.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC I Kehinde Adeleke, the suspects were apprehended on November 1, 2025, while allegedly dismantling three 132KV DS contact isolators kept inside a container meant for storing tools and materials at the TCN facility.

The State Commandant, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo, who confirmed the arrest, disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that five out of eighteen DS contact isolators had already been dismantled before the operatives swooped on the suspects.

He added that one of the suspects, Adigwe, who serves as a supervisor with one of the contracting firms, admitted that his team tampered with the equipment without proper authorization from TCN officials at the substation.

“The actions of the suspects were carried out without the presence or approval of a valid TCN permit holder, thereby constituting unauthorized interference with critical national infrastructure,” Commandant Sotiyo said.

He further explained that the three suspects were found in possession of three DS contact isolators, which are vital components of the power transmission system.

The Commandant assured that upon completion of investigations, the suspects would be charged to court in accordance with laws governing the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.

Commandant Sotiyo warned individuals, contractors, and corporate organizations to desist from any act of tampering, theft, or vandalism of public property.

“Anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.
