Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), the immediate past Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has officially resigned from the agency to pursue his ambition of becoming the Governor of Osun State in 2026.

The announcement comes shortly after Senator Iyiola Omisore became the first aspirant to purchase the N50 million governorship nomination form for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.

Oyebamiji’s entry into the race adds another contender to the growing list of aspirants eyeing the state’s top political office.

In a statement released by his media team, AMBO expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for the trust and support extended to him during his tenure at NIWA.

The former waterways chief noted that his appointment as substantive MD/CEO in October 2023 was made possible through the strong recommendation of Oyetola and the approval of President Tinubu.

Looking ahead to the 2026 governorship race, Oyebamiji reaffirmed his dedication to delivering quality leadership and sustainable economic growth for Osun State.

He called on God, the leaders and members of the APC, and the people of Osun to support his aspiration, promising to serve with integrity, competence, and dedication.

AMBO’s resignation marks the official beginning of his campaign for the Osun State governorship, a contest that is expected to attract intense competition as the 2026 elections draw nearer.
