The manhunt for the prime suspect in the abduction and alleged murder of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, SRC Lasisi Funmilayo Oluwamayokun, and her daughter has taken a major turn as the Nigeria Police Force has taken custody of the accused, Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun.
Fejemirokun, who fled Nigeria after the incident, was handed over to Nigerian authorities on Monday by the Ghana Police Service in Accra following weeks of intense tracking across West Africa.
Police sources told reporters that the suspect was traced to Ghana through credible intelligence, prompting immediate communication between Accra and Abuja.
The Ghana Police Service notified Nigerian counterparts after confirming his presence, leading the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja to deploy a team to Accra for formal repatriation.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who confirmed the development, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and vowed that justice would be uncompromisingly pursued.
“A thorough investigation is underway, and the suspect will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the probe,” the IGP said.
He also commended the Ghanaian authorities for their swift collaboration and professionalism, describing the synergy as a model of regional law enforcement cooperation.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to strengthening cross-border intelligence-sharing and pursuing criminals beyond national boundaries.
The extradition marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has gripped the nation with shock and grief, following the discovery of the FRSC officer and her young daughter’s remains in the home of a suspected herbalist in Osun State earlier in the month.
Fejemirokun is now in police custody at Force Headquarters, Abuja, as investigations continue.
