Governor Ademola Adeleke has unveiled plans to expand financing for security infrastructure in Osun State as part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of security agencies and address emerging threats.

The governor made this known on Wednesday in Osogbo while receiving members of the Osun State Security Trust Fund on a courtesy visit.

Speaking during the meeting, Adeleke outlined what he described as a comprehensive vision to boost funding for security operations across the state, covering formal security agencies, informal security outfits and rank-and-file personnel.

“We have a big vision of well equipped security services serving the people of Osun State. The men and women of our various security agencies deserve extensive support and care. They secure us; they protect us; we must care for them,” the governor said.

He listed the beneficiaries of the proposed expanded financing to include the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Corps, paramilitary services, vigilante groups and neighbourhood hunters.

According to him, the state government is mobilising resources to enhance equipment, logistics and operational facilities for security agencies to enable them respond effectively to threats.

Governor Adeleke noted that security concerns in neighbouring states, particularly incidents of banditry in Kwara State, make it imperative for Osun to strengthen its internal security architecture to prevent spillover effects.

“Osun is in the midst of many things, the most worrisome being the banditry crisis in neighbouring Kwara State, among others.

We need to strengthen the security services here in Osun to counter external threats and permanently resolve internal threats.

That is why the Security Trust Fund was established, and I am glad the committee members are up and doing,” he added.

The governor, who was accompanied by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies as part of efforts to safeguard ongoing multi-sectoral development across the state.

Earlier, the Secretary of the Trust Fund, Femi Oyedipe, briefed the governor on the activities and strategic plans of the fund, assuring him of the committee’s readiness to meet its mandate.

“We assure Your Excellency that the Trust Fund has developed an actionable work plan to meet the aspirations of the state government,” Oyedipe said.

Other members of the Trust Fund present at the meeting included the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Samuel Ojo, Dr Charles Akhabue, and Sir Adekunle Adepoju.

The meeting underscores the Adeleke administration’s renewed push to consolidate security funding frameworks and reinforce collaboration among security stakeholders in Osun State.
