Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has further cemented its reputation as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising research institutions by winning two of the 158 competitive research grants awarded nationwide in the 2025 cycle of the Federal Government’s National Research Fund (FG-NRF).
The grants, which are open to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country, were awarded to two outstanding research teams from UNIOSUN whose proposals stood out for their innovativeness, relevance, and potential to address pressing national challenges.
The first award went to Professor Kolapo Olusola-Ẹlẹka of the Department of Building and his co-researchers for their project, “Enhancing Buildability in Urban Infrastructure Projects in Nigeria through Innovative Construction Techniques.” The study aims to tackle critical issues in urban development by introducing advanced methods to boost construction efficiency and quality in Nigerian cities.
The second grant was secured by Professor Adetunji Kehinde of the Department of Agricultural Economics and his team for their work on “Promoting Responsible Agrochemical Practices to Mitigate Health Risks and Enhance Sustainable Production among Arable Crop Farmers in Southwest Nigeria.” This research focuses on promoting safer agrochemical usage, improving farmers’ health, and enhancing food safety while sustaining agricultural productivity.
This double feat marks the third consecutive year UNIOSUN has featured prominently in the NRF awards, an achievement the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Adebooye, described as a clear sign of the institution’s growing research strength.
“Our consistent presence in the NRF grant awards is a testament to the dedication of our scholars and the research-driven culture we are fostering at UNIOSUN,” Adebooye said, congratulating the winning teams.
