Ilesa Varsity Don Listed Among World’s Top 2% Scientists

The University of Ilesa, Osun State has recorded a major breakthrough in its academic profile as one of its top dons, Prof. Abel Kolawole Oyebamiji, has been named among the 2025 World Top 2% Scientists.

Prof. Oyebamiji, who serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Chairman of the Committee of Deans, made the prestigious list released on September 19 by Stanford University in partnership with Elsevier and SCOPUS.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Babatunde Fanawopo, Senior Assistant Registrar, Corporate Services and Information Unit of the institution and made available to newsmen on Monday.

Reacting, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu (PhD, FCA), described the feat as “a remarkable milestone that speaks volumes of Prof. Oyebamiji’s dedication to research and innovation.”

According to him, the recognition is not just personal but a reflection of the University’s growing culture of academic and research excellence.

“The Stanford University ranking is one of the most respected benchmarks in the world. To have our own Prof. Oyebamiji listed among the top 2% scientists globally is proof of his global impact and a source of inspiration to others in the academic community,” Asaolu said.

He added that the University of Ilesa has been deliberately fostering research capacity and building collaborations, stressing that the achievement would further enhance the institution’s visibility, attract more funding, and position it as a hub for innovation.
