Osun State Polytechnic Halts Controversial Endowment Fund Levy

0 0

The management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has announced the suspension of the recently introduced endowment fund payment demanded from graduating students, following widespread criticism and backlash from stakeholders.

The directive, which initially required all final-year students in the National Diploma (ND II) and Higher National Diploma (HND II) programmes to pay an endowment levy before accessing their results, sparked outrage among students who described the policy as “insensitive” and “exploitative.”

In a circular earlier issued and signed by the Registrar, Mr. Abiodun O. Oloyede, the institution stated that the ₦10,000 endowment fee was aimed at supporting infrastructural development and enhancing the polytechnic’s facilities.

However, the policy drew swift opposition from the student body and members of the public.

The polytechnic management released a follow-up memo on October 20, 2025, suspending the implementation of the payment.

The new circular clarified that the decision was taken to allow for further consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The proposed endowment initiative, reportedly approved during the institution’s governing council meeting in June 2025, was designed to serve as a contribution by graduating students toward improving the school’s amenities and learning environment.

As of press time, the management has not indicated whether the suspension is temporary or permanent, but discussions are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
