Opinion: When ‘Obalujes’ Masquerade as ‘Atunto’

A group composed of factionalised members of the All Progressive Congress surfaced recently in Osun. While the core of the group is the Oyetola faction of APC, its public face is the handfuls of the decimated Babayemi club.

To hold the supposed mass rally, the group was allocated N50 million allegedly from the Ministry of Blue Economy. Because of trust issues and low reception to such an idea within Osun, the hard core APC decided to mobilise participants directly from Lagos and Oyo states.

So 150 buses entered Osun through Iwo on Wednesday morning and left Osun through the same route by 3pm the same day. The videos are in the public domain.

Reports indicated that APC handlers in Lagos and Oyo assisted in the mobilisation. The local population are hostile to such false deceitful ventures.

At the event proper, Oyetola’s feldman dominated the arena. Aregbesola people were nowhere to be seen.

The poster boy, Babayemi took the stage and unintelligibly said Osun lacks good governance. As he was talking, heavy equipment was cranking the Freedom Square for the dualisation of the roundabout to Okefia road, Osogbo.

Babayemi called for action for a new Osun but he was surrounded by men and women who plunged Osun into avoidable maladministration. The spectacle was a theater of the absurd.

The Gbongan politician himself has a record of political prostitution, jumping from one party to the other and crudely worked against the PDP until he was expelled from the party. His sudden appearance alongside the Obalujes of yesterday affirmed his new toga as an ojelu.

The timing of the rally is ill fated as it comes at a time the approval rating of Governor Adeleke is above 80 percent. Even those who hate Governor Adeleke confessed that he is delivering on good governance alongside open governance and accountability.

The messenger of a false message is even the worst symbolism. Here, both the message and the messenger are misfits considering the state of delivery of democratic dividends in Osun state. The message is wrong as of all accusations you can level against Adeleke, good governance cannot be justifiably included.

The messenger is a corrupted channel because his political credibility is near zero and his antecedents as a purchasable political wheel dealer is well known. Without any records in governance, the Gbongan prince is an unprincipled face to even champion anything like Atunto.

Worse still, the names of supposed leaders mentioned as part of the group reminded the vigilant Osun people of yesterday’s men whose governance records remain the worst in the history of Osun state.

How can Ojelus and abalujes pose as atunluto?

The Babayemi advocacy sounds like that of a political armed robber singing the tone of rule of law. The ojelus wearing a garment of shame failed to hoodwink Osun people.

Or how do we describe assemblage governance marauders accusing men of law and order of misconduct?

Another area we need to get clear is this- Adeleke has a fault and these abalujes are angry about it. The fault- the Governor is too pro-people, exposes fraud in security votes, confirms quality projects can be cheaply delivered, love workers’ welfare, treats pensioners well, harps on immediate infrastructure upgrade, opens health access to over 50, 000 people, introduces digital economy, breaks new ground in climate innovations.

When next you hear atunto slogan, know the abalajes are around your area.
