It is disturbing to see the All Progressives Congress (APC) continue to reduce the significant loss that the unfortunate passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja represents for Osun state and Nigeria in general due to its sickening politics. As much as one can understand the hopelessness of the APC in the face of the significant progress that Osun state is recording under Governor Ademola Adeleke, it is however despicable that the party thinks it can return to public reckoning by tapping on the death of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja. So shameful!
The latest in the rounds of the shameless antics of the Osun APC is in a piece by one Adebayo Adedeji and it is utterly disgusting. In the piece, Adedeji tried to amplify the lies fabricated by his party, and worse, showed the awful side of the desperation of his party to pounce on anything that will drive political gain.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja is a distinguished citizen of Osun, and his death is a great loss to our dear state. However, it is highly shameful that the unthoughtful writer has no respect for the dead and has made the painful loss to our state a subject of unthoughtful discussion. It is not disappointing that Adebayo Adedeji has made himself a monger of “misinformation” and an advocate for “tragedy management” because those were the core characteristics of the 12 years of his party administration in the state.
Bayo should please clarify his statement about “sending his inconsequential associates.” The State Government was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, and the Secretary of the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye, which demonstrated its commitment to honouring its citizens, both in life and in death. The presence of high-ranking officials at Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s burial echoes the administration’s respect for his service and legacy.
It is, therefore, disappointing that individuals like Adedeji, who is a mere media errand boy, will dismiss the representation of the State Government as inconsequential. If anyone is inconsequential, it will be Adedeji who has no purpose other than advancing irresponsible rhetorics. No wonder that he continues to spin baseless narratives, attempting to diminish every efforts or interventions of the government.
This approach not only disrespects the departed but also mocks the collective grief of the people of Osun. One would expect that in moments of loss, politics would take a backseat, allowing for unity and reflection but it appears that common sense is lost on Adedeji and his feckless party.
Lastly, it is important to accentuate the glaring hypocrisy in Adedeji’s accusations. The APC, notorious for its poor governance during its tenure, now seeks to exploit the death of a revered son of the state for political gain. Such behaviour is not only insensitive but also indicative of a party that has lost touch with the values of decency and respect. The people of Osun deserve better than the divisive antics and lies propagated by individuals like Adedeji. As we mourn Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, it is crucial to rise above partisan distractions and honour his memory with dignity and truth.
