The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of deliberately frustrating the state’s development agenda by withholding local government allocations for five consecutive months.
In a press statement signed by the PDP Director of Media and Publicity, Hon. Oladele Olabamiji, and made available to journalists on Wednesday, the party stated that the delay in recruiting new teachers is directly linked to the federal government’s action, which it described as “illegal, inhumane, and politically motivated.”
The PDP’s response followed criticism by the APC over the recent deployment of trained ad-hoc teachers across the state.
According to the PDP, the state government had concluded plans and was on the verge of issuing employment letters to newly recruited teachers before the federal government halted the release of Osun’s statutory allocations — an action the party insists contradicts existing court judgments.
“The deployed ad-hoc teachers were trained and currently work under the guidance of experienced teachers. Their deployment is a temporary but necessary measure. “We urge the APC-led federal government to release Osun’s allocation so the state can meet its obligations, including hiring permanent teachers,” the statement noted.
The PDP alleged that the withholding of the allocations is a calculated move by the APC to sabotage the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and to stall the various developmental projects currently underway, including infrastructure renewal and educational reforms.
“It is now clear that the APC is hellbent on stopping the transformation of Osun. But the PDP government is determined to break this cycle of underdevelopment,” the statement said. “Osun must develop, whether the APC likes it or not,” the statement reads in part.
The party also warned that the electorate will hold the APC responsible for the “inhuman treatment” meted out to Osun residents, especially schoolchildren and unemployed graduates who are victims of the stalled teacher recruitment.
“What sin have Osun people committed to deserve the illegal seizure of their allocations?” the PDP queried. “Next year August, Osun voters will reward the PDP at the ballot and will defend their votes fiercely.”
The statement reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and grassroots development, pledging to overcome the present financial challenges and continue delivering the dividends of democracy.
