The Osun State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has described as false, malicious, and baseless the recent claims by one Alao Adeolu alleging that duly elected local government chairmen, vice-chairmen, secretaries, and councillors in the state collected money from the state government and took a secret oath.
OSUN ALGON described Alao Adeolu as a political hatchet man working for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing the issue on behalf of ALGON, the State Chairman, Otunba Sarafadeen Abiodun Awotunde, dismissed the allegations as “senseless fiction,” fabricated to serve the selfish interests of a disgruntled opposition already rejected by the people of Osun State.
“These claims only exist in the warped imagination of Alao Adeolu and his co-travelers in the APC,” Awotunde declared. “We wonder what they stand to gain from spreading such egocentric and eccentric contractions of truth.”
Awotunde, visibly displeased by the rumour, stated that no local government official was paid off by Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke or the state government, and no oath — secret or public — was taken by any council official at any time.
“It is important to set the records straight. This clarification is not necessarily for the discerning and right-thinking citizens of Osun who already know the truth, but for people like Alao Adeolu who evidently cannot distinguish between facts and fiction,” he added.
He further challenged the accuser to provide evidence of his claims, including payment vouchers, receipts, videos, or photographs of the alleged oath-taking, if they exist.
“We dare him to prove his claims. Let him show the world where this alleged oath was taken, who was present, and any form of pictorial or video evidence. Until then, his story remains nothing but an idle tale crafted to earn him a pat on the back from his paymasters,” Awotunde fumed.
He reaffirmed that the council officials were freely and overwhelmingly elected by the good people of Osun State, and their legitimacy is grounded in democratic principles and popular will.
Awotunde used the opportunity to warn Osun residents against being misled by individuals he described as “enemies of peace and development,” adding that the authentic PDP-led local governments remain focused on delivering good governance at the grassroots.
“The elected officials are working tirelessly across the 30 LGAs and LCDAs to bring visible, people-oriented development to their communities. No amount of propaganda can derail our mission,” he said.
The ALGON chairman reaffirmed the unwavering support and loyalty of all council chairmen and councillors to Governor Adeleke’s administration, stressing that the state government’s developmental agenda remains firmly on course despite attempts by the opposition to distract it.
“Our commitment to the progress of Osun State is total. We will not be distracted by attention-seekers and agents of disunity. We urge the public to remain vigilant and reject falsehood in all its forms,” he concluded.
