The Osun State Government has dismissed as false a report suggesting that Governor Ademola Adeleke is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the government described the claim as a “calculated attempt by those afraid of the Governor’s soaring acceptability to create confusion and uncertainty in the minds of the people of Osun State.”
Rasheed reiterated that Governor Adeleke remains firmly committed to the PDP and has no intention of leaving the party under whose platform he was overwhelmingly elected three years ago.
“Governor Adeleke’s preoccupation at the moment is the continued delivery of dividends of democracy to Osun people. He is also working with PDP leaders to strengthen the party’s structures for the ongoing voter registration ahead of next year’s election, which he is well positioned to win,” the statement read.
The spokesperson accused political opponents of exploiting unsolicited endorsements of Governor Adeleke’s performance to fuel speculation.
He added that the Governor’s popularity has unsettled those “afraid of the will of the people.”
Rasheed urged residents to disregard reports of defection and called on PDP members and supporters to remain focused on mobilising support for Adeleke’s re-election bid.
“As a man of the people, Governor Adeleke recognises the overwhelming goodwill and confidence that Osun people have in the PDP and his leadership. His Excellency is not and will not go against the will of the people,” the statement added.
