The Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday resumed plenary after its legislative recess.
The Assembly markes the session with the passage of four major bills aimed at improving governance, social welfare, and youth development across the state.
The bills, which successfully scaled their third reading, are now awaiting the assent of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
They include the Osun State Sports Commission Establishment Bill 2025, the Osun State Start-up Bill 2025, the Osun State Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshots Bill 2025, and the Osun State Communal Crisis Management and Peacebuilding Bill 2025.
Presenting the reports on the bills, the Chairman of the House Committee on Innovation, Science, Technology and Digital Economy, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Youths, Sports, and Special Needs, Hon. Abiola Awoyeye, commended the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, for his visionary leadership and commitment to people-oriented legislation.
Among the four bills, the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshots Bill 2025 stands out as a life-saving measure.
The legislation mandates all hospitals and healthcare providers in Osun State to provide immediate medical attention to gunshot victims without requiring a police report, a policy designed to reduce preventable deaths and promote humane healthcare practices.
The Osun State Start-up Bill 2025 seeks to empower young entrepreneurs and innovators by creating an enabling environment for tech-driven enterprises, investment attraction, and digital skill development.
Lawmakers described the bill as a cornerstone for youth empowerment and the expansion of the state’s innovation ecosystem.
Similarly, the Sports Commission Establishment Bill 2025 aims to professionalize sports administration, boost talent discovery, and enhance the welfare of athletes across the state.
Lawmakers said the new framework would help Osun achieve greater visibility in national and international sporting events.
The Communal Crisis Management and Peacebuilding Bill 2025 focuses on conflict prevention, early intervention, and sustainable peacebuilding in communities. The bill, according to the House, demonstrates the Assembly’s proactive approach to ensuring lasting harmony and development.
The four bills now await Governor Adeleke’s assent to become law.
