The Elders’ Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has appealed to governorship hopefuls to show restraint in the buildup to the 2026 governorship election.

The Caucus has urged them to delay the purchase of nomination forms until ongoing internal processes are concluded.

The advisory came in a statement issued on Friday by the caucus chairman, Elder Sola Akinwumi, who confirmed that the group had received the report of its Adhoc Committee set up to review preparations ahead of the party’s governorship primary.

Akinwumi disclosed that a Screening Committee has now been inaugurated with the mandate to assess all intending aspirants within a specific timeframe.

He stressed that the party expects full cooperation, noting that aspirants should hold off on obtaining their forms until the committee completes its assignment.

“We urge all governorship aspirants to exercise patience and refrain from picking up party forms until the Screening Committee submits its findings to this body,” the statement read.

The caucus also called on party leaders and members across the state to remain steadfast as the APC intensifies its internal preparations.

The party has fixed December 13, 2025, for its governorship primary ahead of the August 8, 2026 general election.

Already, interest in the race is rising, with about 13 aspirants showing up for the party’s ticket.

Among them is Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor, who is reported to have obtained the N50 million nomination form despite the elders’ call for caution.

Also in the race is former NIWA Managing Director Bola Oyebamiji, who has reportedly resigned from his position at the National Inland Waterways Authority to fully pursue his gubernatorial ambition.

Other aspirants include former Senator Babajide Omoworare; former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi; Dotun Babayemi; Dr. Peter Babalola; Akin Ogunbiyi; and legal practitioner Kunle Adegoke, among others.
