Osun APC’s Sponsorship Of Violence Confirms Loss Of People’s Support– TICC

The Imole Campaign Council has accused the All Progressives Congress of sponsoring violence in different areas of the state against Accord members and supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke, stating that it confirms that the APC has lost the support of the people.
The council in a statement by its Spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi noted that Democracy, anywhere it is adopted as a form of government, thrives on the contest of ideas, not firing of bullets, and gaining the confidence of the people, not coercion.
He thereafter noted that Osun people are widely regarded as Omoluabis and as such, every act of desperation for power through crude means must cease forthwith adding that the TICC will continue to champion the values of lives and the integrity of elections.
The statement reads, “The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) strongly condemns the campaign of violence against members of Accord and supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke by violent actors linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“In recent days, Osun people have come under a relentless campaign of violence, creating heightening apprehensions and tragic losses of lives. The reckless embrace of intimidation and bloodshed is not only a brutal attack on our democratic values but confirms what is becoming glaring to every discerning mind, and that is the fact that the APC has lost people’s support.
“Democracy, anywhere it is adopted as a form of government, thrives on the contest of ideas, not firing of bullets, and gaining the confidence of the people, not coercion. We consider the resort to violence by the APC as a desperate attempt to force themselves on the people, which is at clear variance with the principles of democracy.
“Election should be won and lost through the ballot, and no citizen should suffer any hurt or even lose their lives for trying to exercise their democratic rights. Our campaign believes that Osun people should be able to freely make their choices at the poll without fear of violence and on the strength of the records of performance of the contesting parties.
“We strongly believe that our candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke, performance in the past three-and-half years has deservedly earned him the outpour of support of the people for another term. Instead of sponsoring political thugs to unleash mayhem and create an atmosphere of fear in the state, we urge the APC to seek the people’s support on the strength of its past governance record.
“While we understand the dilemma faced by the party given the pains and hopelessness that defined its time in the governance of Osun, we warn that deploring violence and bloodshed to silence the voice of the people has no place whatsoever in a democracy. Osun people have every right to stick with a government that actually worked for them and their wishes should be respected, not choosing to walk on their bloods to power.
“Our campaign remains committed to the peace and safety of every citizen, irrespective of their partisan learnings. Therefore, we want to reiterate our call to security agencies to act decisively against purveyors of violence in order to guarantee the safety of lives and properties.
“We want to particularly commend the Inspector-General of the Police, Mr. Tunde Disu, for taking steps at taming the growing criminality brewing in Osun State under the guise of politics. As the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the country, we are counting on the IGP to immediately order an impartial, thorough and professional investigation into all politically motivated killings in Osun State and ensure that perpetrators and their sponsors are brought to book. We equally urge the IGP to take urgent actions against officers who knowingly breach the ethics of the profession or allow themselves to be used to emboldened criminals.
“Osun people are widely regarded as Omoluabis and as such, every act of desperation for power through crude means must cease forthwith. We will continue to champion the values of lives and the integrity of elections. As things stand, Osun people have taken a stand and it is to continue with the progress so far made under Governor Ademola Adeleke, and no amount of violence and bloodshed will break that resolve.”
