The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration to providing resources and support for the development of sports in the state.
He gave the assurance on Monday, while speaking at the soccer final organised for secondary schools in the state, tagged: Governor’s Cup.
In his address, the speaker emphasised the importance of sports in the development of young people, and outlined the steps the government is taking to ensure that all youth have access to quality sports facilities and training.
According to him, the government recognises the value of sports and its ability to promote health, teamwork, discipline, and social skills, adding that sport has the power to unite people from all walks of life, regardless of socio-economic status, age, gender, or background.
While congratulating all the participants who have made it to the final in the competition and wishing them the best of luck, Rt. Hon. Egbedun was optimistic that the tournament will serve as a platform for students to showcase their talents and to build camaraderie with their peers.
“It is through initiatives like this that we can help to develop sports in our schools, which is an important part of our administration to provide a well-rounded education for our children.
“As a government, we recognise the value of sports and its ability to promote health, teamwork, discipline, and social skills. Sport also has the power to unite people from all walks of life, regardless of socio-economic status, age, gender, or background.
“The current administration in the state is committed to providing resources such as equipment, training, and infrastructure development that will truly develop sports in our schools. We must create real change by investing in the people who will be the future of sports in our dear state.
“I am optimistic that this tournament will serve as a platform for students to showcase their talents and to build camaraderie with their peers. I would like to congratulate all the participants who have made it to the final and wish them the best of luck in the tournament.
“It is my belief that this tournament will, no doubt, be a springboard for future partnerships between the private sector and the government, in order to develop sports in our schools and communities. I am confident that together, we can create a world-class sports infrastructure that will benefit generations to come”, Egbedun noted.
The speaker lauded the sponsor of the competition, Peculiar Ultimate Limited, for their generous contribution towards the tournament, hopeful to seeing the positive impact it will have on students in the state.
