Nigeria End 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in Style with 4–0 Rout of Benin
The Super Eagles wrapped up their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in style, defeating the Squirrels of Benin Republic 4–0 in Uyo on Tuesday evening.
Nigeria, who went into the encounter needing a convincing win to strengthen their qualification hopes, wasted no time asserting dominance as Victor Osimhen opened scoring inside three minutes.
The Napoli forward doubled his tally just before the break with a well-timed header that left the Beninese goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
Osimhen completed his hat-trick early in the second half to put the result beyond doubt before Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka added a fourth with a powerful volley near full time.
Despite the emphatic victory, Nigeria finished second in Group C behind South Africa, who cruised to a 3–0 win over Rwanda to claim the automatic ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
