Tragedy struck in the Oja-Oba area of Ikirun, Osun State, this morning when a heavy-duty sand-laden vehicle, was involved in a fatal accident that claimed two lives and left several others injured.
According to our reporter, Ismail Olaiya and Aisha Onaolapo, the crash occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. when the truck reportedly suffered brake failure, veered off the road, and ploughed into nearby structures, causing extensive damage to properties.
Eyewitnesses told the reporters that impact of the collision was devastating, as pedestrians and shop owners in the vicinity were caught unawares. Emergency calls were made immediately, and rescue teams, including an ambulance service, arrived promptly at the scene to evacuate victims.
Despite efforts to save all those affected, a man and a pregnant woman were confirmed dead at the scene. One other victim, identified as a young male, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
As of press time, Authorities have yet to release any statement on the incident or disclose identities of the deceased. The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety and the maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles, particularly those transporting construction materials through densely populated areas in Ikirun.
