The 2025 International Youth Day celebration in Osun State turned into a resounding show of support for Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke as youths, under the banner of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), endorsed him for a second term in office.
The colourful event, held at Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, on Monday, drew participants from across the state and beyond. Governor Adeleke was represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who conveyed the Governor’s felicitations to the youth on the global celebration.
Congratulating young people across Osun and the world, the Governor praised their resilience, creativity, and contributions to the state’s development. Speaking on this year’s theme, “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnership”, Adeleke urged youths to embrace technology and global collaboration to tackle pressing challenges such as climate change, public health, and social inequality.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth inclusion, highlighting the recruitment of 10,000 Imole Youth Corps members and the appointment of young people into strategic positions in government.
Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon. Moshood Olagunju, in his welcome address, encouraged the youth to shun social vices, uphold discipline, and remain worthy ambassadors of the state.
Dignitaries present included the Elemrimo of Erimo-Ijesa, Oba (Dr.) Michael Odunayo Ajayi, Arowotawaya II; Commissioner for Political Affairs and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Biyi Odunlade; Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Kashope Abolarin; Permanent Secretaries; and representatives of various youth organisations.
The celebration featured a vibrant march past and prize presentations to outstanding youth groups. The public endorsement of Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid by youth organisations further cemented his administration’s strong grassroots connection and growing popularity among the state’s young population.
