A Magistrates’ Court in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, has sentenced a 29-year-old man, Olaniyan Taofik, to two years in prison after finding him guilty of unlawful entry, theft, and destruction of property.

The conviction came after his arrest by the Osun State Amotekun Corps, following a complaint of burglary and farm theft.

According to the prosecution, led by Mr. Oyedele Akintayo on behalf of the state’s Attorney General, Taofik unlawfully entered the farm of Mr. Omidoyin Clement in Isale-Osun, Ila-Orangun, on July 16, 2025.

He was said to have carted away cocoa, bananas, walnuts, live catfish, and farm equipment valued at about ₦400,000. He also allegedly damaged a CCTV surveillance camera worth roughly ₦300,000.

Investigators from the Amotekun Corps arrested him while he was attempting to sell the stolen goods. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to the offence and confessed to engaging in similar acts before.

Delivering judgment, Magistrate A.A. Ayeni ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, noting that the offences contravened Sections 81, 390(9), and 451 of the Osun State Criminal Code, 2002.

The court stressed that the sentence should serve as a deterrent to repeat offenders and safeguard farmers’ investments, especially in rural areas.
