Agunbe Descendants Union (ADU), the umbrella body of indigenes of the ancient town, has expressed deep concern over the prolonged crisis and lingering tussle over the vacant Akinrun stool in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State.
In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle at 10:22 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2025, the union lamented the state of affairs, insisting that the throne is not a subject of speculation or chance but a birthright.
The post read: “The Akinrun stool is distinct from JAMB, Lottery, or Bet9ja; it is an entitlement by birth. Your support is necessary. The ancient town of Ikirun is in a state of anguish.”
The statement, couched in strong terms, reflects the frustration of many sons and daughters of the community over the uncertainty that has trailed the stool since the Osun State Government nullified the appointment of Prince Yinusa Olalekan Akadiri in January 2024 through a White Paper.
Despite a series of court pronouncements and appeals, the stool has remained in contention, with the people divided along ruling house lines.
Protests and counter-protests have also rocked the town at different times, heightening tension among residents.
As things stand, all eyes are on the courts and the state government’s next move in finding a lasting solution to the succession dispute.
