Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has dispatched a high-powered government delegation to Akinlalu community in Ife-North Local Government Area following the recent violent clash involving operatives of the Amotekun Corps, which led to the deaths of some residents.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke expressed shock over the tragic incident, describing the loss of lives as painful and unacceptable.

He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

“I sent my condolences to the victims of this unfortunate incident. I urge the good people of Akinlalu to keep calm as our government acts on the matter. I feel their pains but investigations are ongoing,” the governor said.

According to the statement, the governor received a preliminary report from his Special Adviser on Security Matters on the circumstances surrounding the killings.

The report was further deliberated upon in a briefing session with the Deputy Governor, ahead of a State Security Council meeting scheduled for Monday.

Governor Adeleke noted that the government would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the root cause of the clash, assuring the public that justice would be served in accordance with the law.

“I am a rule-of-law Governor. This matter is being investigated, and any infraction will be dealt with within the context of the law. I have ordered a security council meeting on this incident and others such as fears of spillover from Kwara banditry attacks,” he said.

The governor also announced that a delegation comprising top government officials and security chiefs would visit Akinlalu after Monday’s security council meeting to interface with community leaders and families of the victims.

Those listed to be on the delegation include the Special Adviser on Security Matters, the Commissioner for Information, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, the Commissioner for Transportation, the Attorney General of the State, the Special Adviser on Legal Matters, and heads of various security agencies in the state.

The state government had earlier confirmed that an investigation was underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter between Amotekun operatives and residents of the community.

Meanwhile, calm has gradually returned to Akinlalu following the intervention of security operatives, even as residents await the outcome of the government’s investigation into the incident.
