Strike: Osun JUSUN Slams Adepele Ojo Over Indifference

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State Branch, has criticized the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo for what it described as a “gross display of indifference” to the ongoing industrial action that has crippled judicial activities across the state.

The JUSUN strike, which has entered its third week, has paralyzed court proceedings across Osun State, leaving many litigants and legal practitioners stranded as calls for dialogue between the judiciary management and staff union intensify.

Speaking during the union’s State Congress held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the entrance gate of the High Court of Justice, Osogbo, the State Chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, expressed disappointment over the Chief Judge’s alleged nonchalant attitude and failure to engage with the union since the strike began.

“The Congress vehemently condemns the Honorable Chief Judge’s egregious display of indifference to the ongoing JUSUN strike.

“Her abrupt departure from the state on the very day the strike commenced, coupled with her persistent absence and refusal to dialogue with JUSUN leadership, underscores her disregard for the welfare of judiciary staff and the general public,” Adeniran said.

The union, while expressing gratitude to its members for their steadfastness and unity, reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the strike until all pending issues affecting workers’ welfare are addressed.

Adeniran also announced that all financial transactions within judiciary institutions remain suspended during the strike, except for the payment of judges’ September salaries, which he said was part of efforts by some judges to mediate the dispute.

He warned that unauthorized withdrawals from the accounts of the High Court, Customary Court of Appeal, and Judicial Service Commission would not be tolerated, emphasizing that such acts would be viewed as sabotage.

The JUSUN Chairman further disclosed that a meeting between the union and the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Osun State has been scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, to deliberate on resolving the ongoing impasse.

“We appreciate the NBA’s willingness to intervene in this crisis and look forward to constructive dialogue,” he said.

Adeniran commended judiciary workers for their discipline in complying with the strike order and warned against any member resuming work without official clearance from JUSUN.

“No staff member should enter their office without explicit permission from the union. Your cooperation and commitment are the backbone of our struggle,” he emphasized.

Adeniran subsequently urged members to remain resolute and united in their demand for justice and improved welfare.
