An Osun-based youth group under aegis of Concerned Youths of Ife-Ijesa for Good Governance and Security Stability have condemned the recent statement credited to Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, in which he reportedly claimed responsibility for the sealing of the operational bases of the Osun Amotekun Corps in Osogbo and Ile-Ife, describing the outfit as a “home of murderers.”
The citizens described the Senator’s remark as reckless, arrogant, and unbecoming of a federal lawmaker.
They accused him of making an unconstitutional claim that could destabilize the security architecture of the state.
“It is laughable and lamentable that a man whose political history is soaked in thuggery and misuse of raw power could have the moral audacity to cast aspersions on a lawful and people-oriented security agency that has been complementing the efforts of conventional security operatives across the state,” the statement read.
The group faulted the Senator’s boast. It added that no individual, regardless of position, has the legal authority to order the closure of a state security agency.
“For a serving Senator to openly boast of being behind the sealing of a state security institution is not only reckless and irresponsible, but also a direct affront to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” they said.
They described Senator Fadahunsi’s claim as “a dangerous attempt to elevate himself above the law,” warning that such arrogance is capable of undermining law and order in the state.
The citizens noted that the agency was lawfully established by the Osun State House of Assembly and has continued to play a vital role in safeguarding communities.
“Since inception, Amotekun has demonstrated bravery and professionalism in combating insecurity, from recovering stolen livestock and intercepting armed robbers to curbing kidnapping and illegal mining. The Corps has remained a strong pillar of community safety, especially in rural areas where federal security presence is minimal,” the statement added.
The group advised Senator Fadahunsi to channel his energy into strengthening the security institution through legislative support rather than attempting to discredit it for political reasons.
“This Hitler-style arrogance of boasting to have ‘sealed’ a state security base is dangerous, dictatorial, and completely out of tune with democratic ethos.
“The Senator should focus on his legislative responsibilities and stop dragging Osun into unnecessary tension and political theatrics,” the statement read.
The citizens maintained that the people of Osun stand solidly behind the agency as a symbol of homegrown security and community trust.
“Our collective resolve is to support, reform, and strengthen Amotekun, not destroy it with politics of bitterness and ego trips. True leaders build institutions; pretenders destroy them for self-glorification. Senator Fadahunsi must decide which side of history he wishes to stand on,” the statement concluded.
