Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Monday paid a condolence visit to Akinlalu town in Ife North Local Government Area following the killing of three residents by operatives of the Amotekun Security Network.
The governor, who had just returned from a medical trip to the United States, said he headed straight to Akinlalu to sympathize with the victims’ families, the town’s traditional ruler, and residents over the tragic incident.
Adeleke was accompanied by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi; Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun; Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye; Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazeem Akinleye; members of the House of Assembly, and key members of the State Executive Council.
“I am truly sad. I was in the United States when this unfortunate incident happened. I cut short my medical stay. I arrived late yesterday and immediately decided to come here to empathize with the victims and the people of Akinlalu,” the governor said at the palace of the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu, Oba Israel Oluwabusola Aborisade.
Governor Adeleke prayed for the souls of the deceased and comforted their families, commending the town for maintaining peace despite the provocation.
He assured the people that justice would be done and that the perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
“I can assure you that those responsible will face the full wrath of the law. There won’t be any sacred cows. Any Amotekun officer needed for interrogation must cooperate fully with the police investigation. I have directed the Amotekun Board Chairman, AIG Wale Abbas (Rtd), to work with the police to ensure justice is served,” Adeleke declared.
The governor revealed that some suspects had already been arrested, while urging residents to provide information about any operatives involved in the attack.
“I commend you for sustaining peace. The state government will compensate the victims’ families and build a police station in Akinlalu as requested. This town is part of our development plan, and we will continue to support its growth. Above all, justice will be done,” he added.
Earlier, Oba Aborisade thanked the governor for his quick response and ongoing infrastructure projects in Akinlalu. He appealed to Adeleke to ensure that justice is delivered.
“Your Excellency, we appreciate this visit and your concern. Please secure justice for us. To my people, I urge calm and patience. We are confident your government will ensure the culprits do not go unpunished,” the monarch said.
Also speaking, Hon. Oyewusi Ireyode Akinyode, representing Ife North State Constituency, praised the people’s peaceful conduct and urged them to allow law enforcement agencies to conduct their investigation without obstruction.
Deputy Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly noted that while Akinlalu shares boundaries with communities in Ondo State, the Amotekun Corps remains crucial for community policing. He, however, appealed for reforms rather than total condemnation of the outfit.
Earlier, the Youth Leader of Akinlalu, Musbau Adeboye, appreciated the governor for his intervention and the construction of the Akinlalu township road. He presented a position paper on behalf of the town’s youths, which included demands for the suspension of key Amotekun officials, transparent investigation, adequate compensation, and the establishment of a police station to prevent future occurrences.
