The Osun State Government has debunked a recent publication by Osun Defender alleging that a medical facility donated to the state by Chief Femi Adesina, a former Special Adviser to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, had been abandoned.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, said the report was misleading, stressing that the government had never abandoned the facility but had instead been addressing several structural and security lapses discovered after it was handed over to the state.
According to Dr. Adekunle, the hospital, located along an expressway, lacked a security post at the time of handover, leaving it vulnerable to vandalism. He disclosed that the absence of security allowed criminals to invade the premises and cart away equipment, including a generating set.
“The government has since built a security post and plans to deploy police officers to the facility to prevent further vandalism and safeguard patients and medical personnel when it becomes fully operational,” he explained. “The damaged generating set has been repaired, and a new generator house has been constructed.”
The statement further revealed that the hospital’s initial construction was poorly executed, noting that the roof was blown off by wind and had to be re-roofed by the state government. In addition, the compound was not floored, which encouraged bush growth and posed risks to staff and patients — a problem that has now been rectified.
Dr. Adekunle also pointed out that the facility lacked a functional laboratory and electricity connection at the time of commissioning. “We have now established and fully equipped a laboratory to serve the hospital,” he said. “The government is also in the process of installing a transformer and connecting the facility to the national grid to ensure steady power supply.”
He assured residents of Ipetumodu and the general public that once the electrification process is completed, the hospital will be staffed and fully operational. “Furniture and other essentials that were missing have already been procured and supplied by the government,” he added.
Dr. Adekunle urged newsmen to verify information before publication to avoid creating unnecessary panic.
“The present administration remains committed to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that all facilities in the state are put to optimal use for the benefit of Osun people,” the statement concluded.
