Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command have arrested a 22-year-old man identified as Ismail Damilare, popularly known as Killer, for unlawful possession of firearms in Osogbo, the state capital.
The suspect, said to be a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, was apprehended during a special operation carried out by the command on Monday.
According to police sources, Damilare was found with two locally made pistols, live ammunition, and other weapons during the raid.
A video that surfaced online after his arrest showed the suspect admitting that he belonged to the NURTW and that he obtained the firearms during a violent clash involving rival cult groups.
Further investigation revealed that Damilare allegedly serves as the Personal Assistant to the Chairman of the Osun State Park Management System.
Confirming the arrest, the Osun State Police Command commended the efforts of its operatives, noting that the swift action of the Anti-Cultism Unit prevented a potential breakdown of law and order in the area.
“The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the completion of investigation,” a police spokesperson said.
Residents of Osogbo have lauded the security operatives for their vigilance and urged the command to sustain its clampdown on criminal elements and cult-related activities across the state.
The arrest comes amid renewed efforts by the Osun State Police Command to rid the state of cultism, illegal possession of firearms, and other violent crimes threatening public peace.
