TICC Condemns Osun APC, Demands Respect for Honest Labour

By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo

The Spokesperson of the Imole Campaign Council (TICC), Pelumi Olajengbesi, has condemned comments allegedly made by the Director-General of the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council concerning parents whose children attend public schools.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Olajengbesi described the remarks as “reckless, insensitive, arrogant and insulting,” saying they were disrespectful to millions of hardworking Nigerians who depend on public education.

The controversy followed comments allegedly suggesting that children in public schools are there because their parents failed to work hard or did not make good use of their younger years.
Reacting, Olajengbesi said such a position was disconnected from the realities of ordinary Nigerians.

“It is unfortunate, reckless and deeply insensitive for any political leader to suggest that children attending public schools are there because their parents did not work hard enough,” he said.

According to him, many parents whose children attend public schools are responsible and hardworking citizens striving to provide decent lives for their families through honest labour.

“Teachers, civil servants, traders, artisans, farmers and ordinary workers who struggle daily to raise their families deserve respect, not mockery from politicians who speak as though wealth alone determines human value and social relevance,” he stated.

Olajengbesi stressed that public schools should not be portrayed as institutions for failures, noting that they remain part of government’s responsibility to provide accessible education for all citizens.

“Public schools are products of government responsibility and should be institutions every responsible leader is proud to strengthen, improve and invest in, not platforms for political arrogance and class mockery,” he added.

The TICC Spokesperson further stated that leadership should be rooted in humility, empathy and emotional intelligence rather than “elitist arrogance and class superiority.”

He also accused the Osun APC of being disconnected from the realities facing ordinary citizens.

“Governance is about service to the people, not public display of privilege and social detachment from the realities of citizens,” Olajengbesi said.

He urged political leaders to respect the dignity of labour and show greater sensitivity to the struggles of Nigerians working hard to secure better opportunities for their children.
