A former Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for Ife Federal Constituency in the 2023 general election, Mr. Olamide Awosunle, has mobilised over 1,000 members of the Village People Movement in support of the re-election bid of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
The endorsement took place on Thursday at Enuwa Square, Ile-Ife, where members of the socio-political group drawn from Ife East, Ife Central, Ife North and Ife South local government areas gathered to declare their support for the governor ahead of the next governorship election.
The event attracted a large turnout of youths, women, students, civil servants, artisans, retirees and other stakeholders from across the constituency.
Speaking during the gathering, Awosunle, who is the Coordinator of the Village People Movement, said the decision to back Governor Adeleke was reached after members assessed the administration’s performance in key sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare and grassroots development.
“We have carefully assessed the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke and concluded that he deserves another term to consolidate on the achievements recorded under his administration. Our members across the four local government areas of Ife Federal Constituency have unanimously agreed to support and work for his re-election,” he said.
Awosunle added that the movement would commence extensive grassroots mobilisation and voter education campaigns to ensure massive support for the governor during the election.
Also speaking, a prominent member of the movement, Dr. Obisakin Busayo, described Governor Adeleke’s administration as responsive and people-oriented.
According to her, the developmental projects executed across the state have strengthened public confidence in the administration.
“The governor has demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the people through various developmental initiatives across Osun State. Residents should continue to support policies and programmes that promote growth and development,” she said.
Busayo further urged youths and community leaders to remain actively involved in the democratic process and support leaders who have shown dedication to public service.
In her remarks, Yeyeluwa Modupeola Adeleke, elder sister of Governor Adeleke and special guest at the event, appreciated members of the Village People Movement for their support and confidence in the governor’s leadership.
She commended the group for its grassroots mobilisation efforts and assured members that the governor would continue to prioritise the welfare of the people.
“Governor Adeleke remains committed to delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State. He will continue to invest in infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, and other initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of residents,” she said.
Community leaders, youth representatives, women groups and political stakeholders who spoke at the event also pledged their support for Governor Adeleke’s second-term aspiration.
Among those in attendance were officials of the Osun State Government, leaders of the Accord Party, community leaders, political associates and other dignitaries from within and outside Ifeland.
