The Public Relations Officer of Osun Amotekun Corps, CSA Idowu Yusuf Abass has said that the Osun Amotekun operates within established operational procedures and applicable laws, Osun Spring Reports.

He stated further that its officers work closely with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies in intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and emergency response adding that the results of these collaborations are evident in the numerous successes recorded in combating kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal mining, cultism, and other criminal activities across the state.

The Corps Public Relations Officer in a statement personally signed by him on Friday stated that any misrepresentation of the outfit which is the most effective community-based security institutions established to complement the conventional security agencies in safeguarding lives and property across Osun State will not be entertained.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Osun Amotekun Corps has been drawn to a series of allegations made against the Corps during a recent meeting with the Inspector General of Police by certain political actors who attempted to portray the Corps as a criminal outfit and to cast doubt on its professionalism and operational integrity.

“Ordinarily, the Osun Amotekun Corps would not dignify politically motivated accusations with a response. However, in the interest of the public, the security of our communities, and the confidence that the people of Osun State have reposed in the Corps, it has become necessary to set the record straight.

“The attempt to label the Osun Amotekun Corps as a criminal organisation is not only false and malicious but also a deliberate effort to undermine one of the most effective community-based security institutions established to complement the conventional security agencies in safeguarding lives and property across Osun State.

“Since its establishment under the laws of Osun State, the Corps has discharged its constitutional responsibilities with professionalism, discipline, and unwavering respect for the rule of law.

“Our officers work closely with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies in intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and emergency response. The results of these collaborations are evident in the numerous successes recorded in combating kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal mining, cultism, and other criminal activities across the state.

“It is therefore unfortunate that some individuals have chosen the path of misinformation and political propaganda by attempting to paint the Corps in bad light before the nation’s highest police authority. Such actions do not serve the interests of security or public peace; rather, they distract from the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to support institutions working tirelessly to protect citizens.

“Particularly disturbing is the allegation regarding the operational attire of Amotekun personnel. It is important to clarify that every security operation is conducted strictly within the framework of established operational procedures and in accordance with applicable laws.

“The Corps has approved operational guidelines governing its personnel, including the use of uniforms and equipment. At no time has the leadership of the Corps sanctioned any unlawful practice intended to deceive the public or impersonate any other security agency.

“We equally appreciate the assurance reportedly given by the Inspector General of Police that the concerns raised would receive due attention. We are convinced that any fair and evidence-based review will expose the allegations for what they truly are—unsubstantiated claims lacking credible proof.

“The Osun Amotekun Corps wishes to remind all political stakeholders that security should never become a tool for partisan contestation. Attempts to politicise security institutions not only weaken public confidence but also embolden criminal elements who thrive when legitimate security agencies become subjects of needless controversy.

“The Corps remains apolitical and will continue to discharge its statutory duties. We call on residents of Osun State to disregard the unfounded allegations and continue to cooperate with the Corps by providing timely and credible information that will assist in combating crime and maintaining public safety.

“The Osun Amotekun Corps remains resolute in its mission to provide effective community policing, strengthen collaboration with all security agencies, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.

“No amount of politically motivated misinformation or orchestrated attempts at discrediting the Corps will deter us from our constitutional mandate.”
