The Osun State Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon. Moshood Olagunju has described the issues rocking the Osun State Chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) as internal, stating that he is not interfering in the issues of the council.
Olagunju also advised members of the youth council to look inwards to solve their issues instead of what he described as cheap blackmail, aimed at forcing the hands of the commissioner into illegality.
The Commissioner in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital also revealed that crisis has started long before he was appointed.
He further appreciates the contributions of youth organizations in advancing the cause of the society and especially, the evolving democracy in Nigeria adding that he is doing everything in his care and the law, to put the youth in the front burner of administration of Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.
He said “I am constrained to put it on record that that I have no hands in all issues bedevilling the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and I have deployed instruments of my office in preventing the crisis from degenerating into fisticuffs which could have caused the organization and the youth demography in the state untold embarrassment.
“For the records, a congress had purportedly been held to elect a new state chairman for the state chapter of NYCN which purportedly produced Comrade Ajala Adetunji as Chairman. This exercise has been done long before I became Commissioner.
“However, shortly after I assume office, I received a number of correspondences from the national headquarters of the NYCN, duly signed by the national chairman and the secretary, distancing themselves form the Congress that produced Comrade Ajala, stating that due process was not adhered to. One comrade AndulMajeed Oyeniyi was stated in the correspondences as the recognized caretaker Chairman of NYCN, Osun State.”
Olagunju however stated that effort is on top gear to ensure that the issue is permanently resolved advising parties involved to come to the dialogue instead resulting to name calling and accusation on social media.
