The Osun State House of Assembly has written to the United Bank for Africa (UBA) demanding details of all local government accounts domiciled in the bank as part of an ongoing probe into the management of council funds.

In a letter signed by Speaker, Rt Hon Adewale Egbedun and dated September 29, 2025, the Assembly said the investigation was being carried out under Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower lawmakers to scrutinize the use of public funds.

The letter, addressed to the Manager of UBA’s Olonkoro Branch in Òṣogbo, dated 29th of September, 2025 requested that the bank furnish the Assembly with a full list of all accounts operated by the 30 local governments in the state within 72 hours.

The lawmakers also asked for detailed statements of account from January 1, 2024, to date, along with Certified True Copies of the current signatory mandates for each account, indicating the names and designations of those authorized to operate them.

According to the letter: “This request is made in line with Section 128(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which empowers the House to conduct investigations for the purpose of exposing corruption, inefficiency, or waste in the administration of public funds. Section 129(1) (a), (c) and (d) authorises the House or its committees to summon any person in Nigeria to produce documents relevant to an investigation.”

The Assembly warned that failure to comply with the directive within the stipulated timeframe would leave it with no choice but to exercise its constitutional enforcement powers.

“Kindly note that failure to comply with this directive within the stipulated timeframe will compel the House to invoke its constitutional enforcement powers, including the issuance of summons and warrants, and to recommend appropriate legal and regulatory action against any erring institution,” the letter further stated.

Egbedun emphasized that the move was in the interest of accountability and transparency, stressing that the House expected UBA’s “utmost cooperation in this matter of urgent public interest.”
