The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, Adebayo Akanbi, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist, Tiramiyu Afeez.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, saying the suspect was arrested by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
He explained that the victim was declared missing after he left home on February 21, 2026, for his daily commercial motorcycle business but did not return.
“The case was initially reported at ‘A’ Division, Ede, on February 23, 2026, after the deceased failed to return home,” Ojelabi said.
“Efforts made to trace his whereabouts proved abortive until information was received that a police patrol team from Awo Division discovered an unidentified corpse lying in a pool of blood along the Ojo-Ara-Ejigbo Road.”
According to him, the corpse was later identified by family members as that of Afeez, while preliminary findings showed that his throat had been slit.
The police spokesperson said the case was subsequently transferred to the Homicide Section of the SCID in Osogbo for a detailed investigation.
“Through intelligence gathering and technological analysis, detectives tracked and arrested the suspect on April 18, 2026,” he said.
“The deceased’s Bajaj motorcycle and two ignition keys were recovered from him.”
Ojelabi added that the suspect confessed during interrogation to luring the victim to the Ara-Ejigbo axis through a phone call.
“He admitted that he attacked and killed the victim before making away with the motorcycle,” the statement added.
“The suspect also confessed to disposing of the knife used in the crime as well as the victim’s mobile phone.”
