Osun Govt Dismisses OYIGG Petition, Describes Allegations as False and Malicious

By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo

The Osun State Government has rejected a petition reportedly submitted by a group known as the Osun Youths Initiative for Good Governance (OYIGG), describing its contents as baseless, defamatory and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, said the petition, allegedly signed by Dr. Adeyemi Akande, was “a cocktail of falsehood, conjecture and reckless innuendo” aimed at misleading the public and discrediting the administration.

He dismissed allegations of multi-billion naira infrastructure fraud, mismanagement of public funds and diversion of federal allocations without legislative approval, insisting that such claims “are baseless, spurious, malicious and entirely lacking in substance.”
Alimi also refuted claims made against the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, and the Accountant-General of the State, Mr. Rasheed Olalere Alabi.

“At no time has the Chief of Staff, who is not the custodian of the state treasury, diverted any public funds, whether directly or by proxy,” he said.

“The attempt to link the office to allegations of financial diversion is as ridiculous as it is malicious.”

On the Accountant-General, he said, “As the state’s chief accounting officer, he operates strictly within the confines of extant financial regulations, appropriation laws and due authorisation procedures. Every inflow received is properly processed, documented and appropriated in line with constitutional provisions.”

The commissioner described the claim that funds were diverted without legislative approval as “a dishonest fabrication designed to mislead the public and create a false impression of financial misconduct.”

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“This is not a matter of rhetoric; it is a matter of verifiable public record,” Alimi said.

“Osun State has consistently ranked commendably in independent fiscal accountability assessments.”

He cited the state’s performance in the BudgIT Fiscal Transparency League Table, noting that “in a recent assessment, Osun recorded a 100 per cent score, placing it among the best-performing states in fiscal transparency and public accountability.”

According to him, “this independently verifiable record completely contradicts the narrative being peddled by the petitioners.”

The statement also condemned the inclusion of private individuals, including Dr. Deji Adeleke and Chief Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, in the petition.

“They are not officials of the Osun State Government. They hold no public office and play no role in the administration or disbursement of public funds,” he said. “Their inclusion in the petition is reckless, malicious and clearly defamatory.”

Alimi described the petition as “a politically contrived exercise” intended to misinform the public and tarnish the image of the administration.

“What the public is witnessing is not civic vigilance but a poorly scripted political stunt by individuals acting under vested interests,” he said.

He urged the public and the media to disregard the petition, describing it as “a malicious, empty and defamatory document unworthy of serious consideration.”

“The Osun State Government remains committed to transparency, accountability and sustainable development,” Alimi added.

“No amount of sponsored falsehood or political blackmail will derail this administration’s focus on service delivery and good governance.”
