Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday launched the maiden edition of the Imole SSCE Scholarship Award, describing the initiative as a strategic effort to reward academic excellence and strengthen the state’s education sector.
The governor, who spoke at the launch held at Osun State University, said the scholarship programme was designed to recognise outstanding students and encourage higher academic performance across the state.
“This scholarship is designed to celebrate excellence and move Osun State to even greater heights in educational development,” Adeleke said.
He commended students, teachers, parents and the Ministry of Education for their contributions to the state’s academic progress. He also noted that the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole, presented hard copies of the National Examinations Council (NECO) reports for 2024 and 2025, which ranked Osun seventh nationally.
Addressing the political climate ahead of the August 15 election, the governor urged residents to reject what he described as proceeds of crime allegedly being distributed by opposition elements.
“My people of Osun State, we are at a critical period ahead of the August 15 election. Those who hijacked and diverted over N300 billion in Osun local government funds are desperate,” he said.
“I charge Osun people to reject Greek gifts, shun proceeds of crime, and use their votes to sustain continuity. Osun voters have a sacred duty to reject illegality, political corruption and unconstitutional attempts to subvert democracy.”
Adeleke added that the forthcoming election presents an opportunity for citizens to reaffirm their support for democratic governance and sustained development.
“Our votes must further sustain the delivery of democratic dividends as witnessed by our people since 2022. Those who violated the law and trampled on the constitution to hijack local governments must be rejected at the polls,” he stated.
He further urged residents to uphold Osun’s reputation as a model of good governance and democratic values.
“As we celebrate academic excellence, we must also prove to the world that those who disregard democracy and its rules have no place near Government House,” the governor added.
Also speaking, the Lead Consultant of Electronic Collection Group and a key partner in the scholarship scheme, Engr. Kayode Akinmade, commended the governor for initiating the programme, describing it as a significant boost to education in the state.
“We appreciate His Excellency for supporting education, promoting excellence and recognising outstanding students at all levels of school education. This maiden edition is a huge success,” Akinmade said.
The event was attended by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, a cabinet member, Hon. Kamardeen Ajisafe, and other senior government officials.
