Osun State University has emerged winner of two Federal Government’s 2025 National Research Fund (FG-NRF) out of the 158 competitive research grants awarded Nationwide.
According to a statement by the University Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the first grant was awarded to Professor Kolapo Olusola-Ẹlẹka of the Department of Building, alongside his co-researchers while the second grant was secured by Professor Adetunji Kehinde of the Department of Agricultural Economics and his team.
The statement noted that hhis dual achievement not only reflects UNIOSUN’s commitment to impact-driven research but also marks the third consecutive year the University has featured.
The statement reads, “Osun State University has once again affirmed its rising status in Nigeria’s research landscape by securing two out of the 158 competitive research grants awarded Nationwide in the 2025 cycle of the Federal Government’s National Research Fund (FG-NRF). The 2025 FG-NRF research grant was open competition for all public tertiary institutions, including the universities, polytechnic, and colleges of education across Nigeria.
“The prestigious grants were awarded to two exceptional research teams from the University, whose research proposals were recognised for their innovativeness, relevance, and potential impact on national development.
“The first grant was awarded to Professor Kolapo Olusola-Ẹlẹka of the Department of Building, alongside his co-researchers, for their project titled: “Enhancing Buildability in Urban Infrastructure Projects in Nigeria through Innovative Construction Techniques.”
The research seeks to tackle critical challenges in urban development by introducing modern methods aimed at improving construction efficiency and quality across Nigerian cities.
“The second grant was secured by Professor Adetunji Kehinde of the Department of Agricultural Economics and his team for a project titled: “Promoting Responsible Agrochemical Practices to Mitigate Health Risks and Enhance Sustainable Production among Arable Crop Farmers in Southwest Nigeria.” The study is designed to promote safe agrochemical usage and sustainable farming practices, with a focus on safeguarding the health of farmers and consumers while enhancing agricultural productivity.
“This dual achievement not only reflects UNIOSUN’s commitment to impact-driven research, but also marks the third consecutive year the University has featured prominently in the NRF grant competition, solidifying its position as one of Nigeria’s leading research-focused institutions.”
The statement further noted that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Adebooye, congratulated the successful teams and reaffirmed the University’s dedication to supporting research that addresses pressing national and global challenges.
“Our consistent presence in the NRF grant awards is a testament to the dedication of our scholars and the research-driven culture we are fostering at UNIOSUN,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
