The contest for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Osun State ahead of the 2026 elections has gained fresh momentum with the formal entry of foremost lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Hon. Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (K-RAD), into the race.
Adegoke, who hails from Osogbo in Osun-Central Senatorial District, made his intention known earlier this week during a visit to the APC state secretariat, where he met with party leaders and stakeholders.
Addressing party faithful, K-RAD described his ambition as a call to service, anchored on the urgent need for transformational governance in Osun.
He stressed that the time had come for the state to move beyond political slogans to practical solutions that would place Osun on a path of sustainable growth.
K-RAD’s entry adds a new dynamic to the APC primary contest, which already features heavyweight aspirants, including former Deputy Governor and immediate past APC National Secretary, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, and incumbent National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, also from Osun-Central.
However, strong internal calls persist within the party to zone the ticket to Osun-West, with proponents arguing that the zone has had the shortest stint in the governorship seat — just five years — compared to Osun-Central’s 15 years and Osun-East’s 8 years since 1999.
With the APC primary scheduled to hold on or before November 10, 2025, K-RAD’s entry signals that the coming months will be crucial in determining the party’s flagbearer and setting the tone for what promises to be a fiercely contested 2026 governorship election in Osun.
