Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has confirmed that he will seek the governorship of Kebbi State in the 2027 general elections.
Malami made his intention known during a conversation with DCL Hausa on Monday, monitored by our correspondent.
He expressed strong confidence in his political backing across the state despite the restrictions placed by the Independent National Electoral Commission on early campaign activities.
He said he is convinced the people of Kebbi are ready to support his aspiration once official campaigning begins.
“I have made up my mind to contest, and by God’s grace, we are confident of victory. We will not disappoint those who trust us,” he stated.
The former AGF accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of presiding over worsening security challenges in the North, saying many farmers have abandoned their farmlands due to rampant attacks by bandits.
According to him, the situation has crippled food production and forced long-standing rice mills to shut down.
Malami blamed both state and federal authorities for poor policy decisions and what he described as neglect of the agricultural sector.
He said his decision to run is driven by a desire to restore security, revive farming activities and safeguard the wellbeing of Kebbi residents.
“This is not about personal ambition. It is a mission to rescue Kebbi State,” he added.
He recalled that he left the APC in July for the African Democratic Congress after what he called extensive consultations and reflection. Malami explained that the move was motivated by concern for the hardship Nigerians face daily, rather than any personal grievance.
