Just In: Governor Adeleke Approves Implementation Of ASUU–FGN Agreement For UNIOSUN, Orders Payment Of Arrears

Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government at Osun State University (UNIOSUN), with payment of arrears to commence from January 2026.
In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the implementation covers major components of the agreement, including the Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA), the newly introduced tax-free Consolidated Tools Allowance (CATA), and Professorial Allowances.
According to the statement, the initiative is expected to significantly enhance staff welfare, strengthen institutional stability, and promote industrial harmony within the University.
Reacting, the Chairman of ASUU, UNIOSUN Chapter, Dr Wende Olaosebikan, described the approval as timely and impactful.
“On behalf of Congress and the entire ASUU-UNIOSUN, we sincerely appreciate His Excellency for this life-impacting decision. This is a clear demonstration of responsive leadership and commitment to workers’ welfare,” he said.
Olaosebikan also commended the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. Wale Oladipo, as well as members of the University Council, for their roles in facilitating the implementation.
He further lauded the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, for what he described as proactive leadership, noting that the University management played a critical role in securing the necessary approvals and ensuring effective execution of the agreement.
The Ibadan Zone of ASUU, in its reaction, described the development as a “triumph of dialogue and justice” in university labour relations, emphasising the importance of sustained engagement between government and labour unions.
Stakeholders note that the payment of arrears, alongside the implementation of the new allowances, is expected to boost staff morale, improve productivity, and further stabilise the academic environment.
The move positions Osun State University among leading state-owned universities in Nigeria in terms of compliance with agreements on academic staff welfare.
Stakeholders across the education sector have continued to commend the state government, the University Council, and the management for their collaborative approach in sustaining a peaceful academic atmosphere.
With this development, UNIOSUN reinforces its commitment to responsive leadership, respect for agreements, and the promotion of academic excellence, while acknowledging the continued support of the state government despite prevailing financial constraints.
