Osun Gov’t Debunks Fake News on Deposition of Monarch

Osun state Government has advised the public to ignore news going viral that it has sacked the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, Oba Gbenga Joseph Oloyede.
It was earlier reported (Not by Osun Spring) that the traditional ruler was deposed after consultation, legal review, and approval by the State Executive Council (EXCO), however the state government said the purported release did emanate from neither the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment which it was attributed to nor the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The government in a statement by Olufemi Ogundun, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs described the earlier statement as fake, adding that it had useful and meaningful consultation and dialogue with stakeholders of Ipetumodu and steps are being taken in line with the rule of law.
The statement read, “The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to a fake press release in circulation on the purported deposition of the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu.
“The press release did not emanate from the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment or the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and members of the general public and particularly indigenes of Ipetumodu are advised to disregard the fake viral story.
“The State Government has had useful and meaningful consultation and dialogue with stakeholders of Ipetumodu and steps are being taken in line with the rule of law which is the cornerstone of the present administration in the State.
At the appropriate time, the general public and indigenes of Ipetumodu will be informed of the action of the Government on the issue through the appropriate channels of communication.”
Recall that Oba Oloyede was sentenced to 56 months jail-term by Judge Christopher Boyko over $4.2million Covid fraud and filing of fake tax documents.
