Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has expressed confidence in his chances of securing a second term in office ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, saying recent remarks by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, have further strengthened his belief that the electorate remains firmly behind his administration.
Speaking at a meeting attended by top government officials and Accord stakeholders at the Government House, Osogbo, on Monday, Adeleke said Basiru’s comments amounted to an acknowledgment of the political reality in the state.
“I thank Ajibola Basiru for recognising that there is a goalkeeper. This goalkeeper is prepared by God and the people to retain the governorship.
The camp of those who talked about an empty goalpost has been scattered by God and the people,” the governor said.
Adeleke attributed his confidence to what he described as the achievements of his administration over the past four years and the support it continues to enjoy from the people of the state.
“Because we have God, we are fearless. Because we are truly and genuinely serving the people, we are sure of re-election. Today, all the impediments planted by anti-people elements and the Osun APC have been cleared,” he stated.
The governor also challenged the opposition APC to engage the electorate on issues and present its records for public scrutiny ahead of the election.
Questioning what he described as the opposition’s unwillingness to face the electorate, Adeleke said.
“Why is the Osun APC afraid of its sordid past? Why is the Osun APC scared of Osun people?”
He added that he was prepared to take his campaign to every corner of the state to showcase his administration’s achievements and present his plans for another term in office.
“For this election, I am ready to go round towns and villages to show the people what I have done in the last four years. I will brief them on my updated Five-Point Agenda. I challenge the Osun APC to do the same,” he said.
The meeting reviewed preparations for the August 15 governorship election, harmonised interests among party leaders and aspirants, outlined campaign strategies, and offered prayers for a successful electoral outing.
Those in attendance included Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, Accord/PDP General Chairman, Sunday Bisi, Chairman of the Imole Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi; members of the House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly, party candidates for various elective offices, local government chairmen, and members of the party’s state and local government working committees.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s campaign efforts and pledged continued support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid.
