Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has provided compensation to seven victims who sustained gunshot injuries during attacks that occurred in parts of Osun State on Monday.
The victims, who are currently receiving treatment at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital), were injured in separate incidents at Akoda, Aisu Junction and Owode.
The compensation packages were presented on behalf of the governor by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, and the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, during a visit to the victims at the hospital.
During the visit, the victims recounted their experiences and alleged that the attackers operated in vehicles branded with the insignia of AMBO, the campaign organisation of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). They also identified a man popularly known as Asiri Eniba as the leader of the group that carried out the attacks.
In a message conveyed to the victims and their families, Governor Adeleke expressed sympathy over their ordeal and called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
“This violent assault on Osun people should not be swept under the carpet.
The suspects who are widely known must be brought to justice,” the governor said.
He assured the victims of his administration’s support and reiterated the need for a thorough investigation into the incidents.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, confirmed that all seven victims suffered gunshot wounds.
According to him, medical personnel are carrying out surgical procedures to remove bullets from the victims’ bodies and stabilise their conditions.
The beneficiaries of the compensation package are Sanusi Saliu, Taofeek Saka, Lawal Akindele Habeeb, Adeyemi Taoheed, Monday Fidelis, Ramoni Kamolideen and Kamar Aola.
