The Osun State Resident Electoral Commission, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Oluwatoyin Babalola has said that there are currently 2,339,233 registered voters in the state.

Stating this on Thursday while presenting the Electronic Register of Voters (ERV) to political parties at the INEC Media Centre, in Osogbo, in a poston INEC Osun official Facebook page, she noted that the exercise was in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026 (as amended), which mandates the Commission to compile, maintain, update, and make the Register of Voters available to stakeholders.

Babalola explained that Section 20 of the Electoral Act empowers INEC to compile, maintain, update, and make available the Register of Voters, while Section 19 provides that copies of the register shall be made available to political parties in both printed and electronic formats not later than thirty (30) days before a general election and fourteen (14) days before an off-cycle governorship election.

According to the REC, the statutory requirement reflects the Commission’s commitment to openness, transparency, and accountability in the administration of elections. Mrs. Babalola disclosed that Osun State currently has a total of 2,339,233 registered voters, noting that the electronic register would enable political parties to review the list of eligible voters across the State ahead of the election. She added that access to the register would assist political parties in planning their campaigns, engaging the electorate in a lawful and meaningful manner, and contributing to a more transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral process.

Reaffirming the Commission’s readiness for the August 15, 2026 governorship election, the REC assured stakeholders that INEC remains fully committed to conducting a free, fair, credible, inclusive, and transparent election in Osun State.

She noted that the Commission has continued to put in place the necessary administrative, operational, technological, and logistical arrangements for the successful conduct of the election and will sustain stakeholder engagement while discharging its constitutional responsibilities with professionalism, impartiality, and integrity.
