The wave of resignations trailing Senator Olubiyi Ajagunla’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued.
The latest aide to part way with the lawmaker are his Special Adviser on Mobilization, Hon Yusuff Abdullahi (Elegbede) and Senior Special Assistant on Research, Hon. Olalekan Osundina.
In his resignation letter, Osundina cited Senator Ajagunla’s recent defection as the reason for his decision, stating that he could not, “in good conscience,” follow the senator to the ruling APC.
“This decision comes after deep personal reflection and in light of your recent defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). While I respect your right to political realignment, I cannot in good conscience follow that path,” Osundina wrote.
Reaffirming his political allegiance, Osundina declared his support for the PDP and the second-term bid of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.
“My loyalty remains with the PDP – a party that gave you and many of us the platform to rise, serve, and make an impact. I am also fully committed to the second-term election bid of His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke (IMOLE), whose leadership continues to inspire hope, growth and inclusive governance across Osun State,” he added.
Also, in his resignation letter dated July 25, 2025, Abdullahi accused the senator of poor leadership and self-interest, declaring that he could no longer be part of Ajagunla’s political journey.
“During the time of working with you, I discovered that you are such a terrible leader—sitting tightly, running around, hustling in the political landscape for position and power. You don’t know how to build up the young ones to take over. No ideology, no principles, no scruples, no legacy. It’s only your pockets and family you work for,” Abdullahi wrote.
He further stated that Ajagunla’s self-serving motives had squandered opportunities to make a meaningful impact.
“Despite being young and having opportunities to make a positive impact, your self-serving motives and desire for personal gain led you to waste the potential,” he added, while reaffirming his allegiance to the PDP.
Osundina’s resignation adds to the list of key aides who have recently exited Ajagunla’s camp. His Chief of Staff, Otunba Tunde Badmus, Media Assistant Adeniran Babatunde Shakirullahi, and Special Adviser on Media, Oladapo S. Popoola, had earlier resigned in similar fashion, citing loyalty to the PDP and Governor Adeleke.
