Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the reconstruction of the Iwo–Osogbo road.
He also dismissed speculations that the government acted only after public agitation.
In a statement issued today by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the Governor’s Spokesperson, it was revealed that the procurement process for the project had been in motion for nearly three months, culminating in the award of contracts earlier this week.
Letters of award were delivered to contractors on Thursday, with mobilisation for commencement of work set for Monday.
The Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Dr. B. T. Salami, was also on site yesterday for a pre-work inspection.
The state government reinforces its readiness to begin the project without delay.
The government described reports suggesting that the approval followed agitation as “misleading and unfounded,” insisting that Governor Adeleke had long prioritised the road project.
“Mr. Governor has demonstrated deep love for Iwoland and its people by addressing infrastructure challenges in the ancient town. Aside from the ongoing dualisation of the Iwo township road, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Iwo–Osogbo road has been uppermost in Mr. Governor’s mind,” Olawale said interalias.
The statement further stressed that the governor has consistently assured the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Iwo Board of Trustees, and other community elders that ongoing projects will be completed within the agreed timelines.
“Mr. Governor does not need any agitator or protest to do the right thing for the people of Iwoland. His Excellency is walking the talk,” the statement concluded.
